Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
"To raise children for tomorrow’s society by creating an equitable school environment where all students and staff feel welcome, accepted, and celebrated for who they are."
Starting with the 2024-2025 school year, SBCS is looking to prepare our students for our globalized world through the work of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

Who are we?
All staff members at SBCS are working towards greater Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in their classrooms. Below are the leaders of that work.
-
Alexandra Celeste
Behavior Intervention Specialist
I am choosing DEI because I grew up in poverty, and became unsettled when I went to college and realized how many more opportunities other people had simply because of where they were born. This burning sense of inequity pushed me into education where I choose to work with the population I love. DEI helps to level the playing field so that everyone can reach their potential.
-
Gina Dudkowski
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction
I am choosing to be a DEI leader in this building because I believe that every student should be able to come to school each day and participate fully as themselves. I also believe that every employee and student should feel a sense of belonging to our school community.
-
David Ehrle
Superintendent
As the leader of SBCS I believe that I have a responsibility to our school, and community. That responsibility involves improvements in culture, climate, curriculum, and an investment in our school community. I have joined the DEI Committee as a way to promote those improvements and set an example for our school to follow.
-
Samantha Kankiewicz
ENL Teacher
As a teacher of English as a New Language (ENL), I work with students of various backgrounds. It is important to me that they feel included, and feel that they belong at our school.
-
Elizabeth Harwood
8th Grade Science
I believe we all have something to give to the world and that many of us have been held back due to discrimination, underrepresentation, and lack of access. When full participation and fair treatment exists for all, we all benefit.
-
Andrew Huff
Chief Information Officer
I joined the DEI Committee because I cannot comprehend a world where EVERYONE, (especially my own children) are not valued, celebrated, and SEEN! While we still have a long way to go, the work we do today will provide a foundation for future generations.
-
Jonathan Nguyễn
5th Grade Teacher
I am choosing to be a leader of DEI in our school so that I can be the representation that I wish I had seen growing up in schools. I want to build upon our school community/culture so that students, adults, and families feel included, seen, and welcomed.
-
Madelyn Reed
School Social Worker
DEI at SBCS is so important to me because students, and staff, spend a majority of our day in school. We all deserve to feel accepted and celebrated for who we are within our building!
-
Carole Taggart
School Counselor
I have seen and experienced firsthand what it's like for family and friends to be excluded, felt "othered" or worried to talk about their differences and/or disabilities. I want everyone to be included, to feel like they can be who they are freely without judgment or fear of how they might be treated. As humans, we all deserve that.
-
Thomas Wheeler
Family and Community Outreach Coordinator
-
Jessica Wylie
Kindergarten Teacher
I chose to be a member of the DEI team because I believe that all humans deserve dignity and respect and equal opportunities.
