What to Expect In 3rd Grade
In third grade, students are transitioning from being dependent to independent. This means that a lot of the learning will rely more on student interaction, rather than teacher talk. Of course, teachers still play a vital role in the learning and connecting ideas. However, the focus this year will be to have students working together and independently in order to provide them with team-building and leadership skills. In taking this active role in their own learning, students will begin building self-confidence and taking responsibility for their own actions.
In class, expectations will be rigorous and implemented on a daily basis. This is the year of NYS testing, so students will need to work hard, stay focused, and learn an abundance of information.
As parents, your job is to keep your child coming to school ready to learn. Please be mindful that every missed day is a missed opportunity to learn. Of course things do happen where your child may be sick or another obligation comes up. If these are the circumstances, please email me and I will be sure to send any information that will help your child stay on course. Also, homework is very important and should not be taken lightly. If your child does not do homework, they are not practicing the skill they learned that day. As you may already know, skills must be practiced over and over again in order for them to be obtained. Do Not do your child's homework, instead help them by referring to the text book or by reteaching. If you come across an assignment you do not understand, please email me and I will do my best to break down the information for you. I know being a parent is not always easy, but all I ask is that we work together. Just remember, I am only a call or email away!
Thank you,
Mrs. Hutchins
